There is a hard lump under the skin of the vulva that does not hurt

People must always pay attention to changes in their bodies. Some changes are actually telling people that there is a problem with their body. They must be diagnosed and treated as early as possible. If the best treatment period is missed, the situation may become uncontrollable. Some people find a painless lump under the skin of their vulva. Many people do not take it seriously and mistakenly think it is a lipoma. Let’s understand what might happen if there is a nodule on the vulva. Everyone should pay attention to it.

1. Be alert to the details of vulvar cancer

1. Pay attention to whether there are lumps on the vulva

Irregular growths such as vulvar lumps may be a hallmark symptom of vulvar cancer. Use your fingers to gently touch the vulva area to feel for any abnormal growths, and check for any abnormal protrusions on the skin around the vagina. If you find irregular proliferation or abnormalities such as lumps or wart-like lesions, you should be alert! This may be caused by folliculitis, sebaceous gland obstruction, or vulvar cancer. If the lump disappears on its own within a short period of time, you don't need to be too nervous. If the lump does not go away after two weeks, see your doctor immediately.

2. Feel for pain, itching or bleeding in the vulva

You need to pay attention to unusual pain, itching, or even bleeding anywhere on your body, especially in the vulva area. Because this may be caused by vaginal infection or the result of vulvar cancer. Especially if this strange feeling does not disappear, you should be more vigilant!

In addition to pain, itching, and bleeding in the vulva area, you should also pay attention to abnormal pain in the pelvic area, especially when urinating or having sex.

Watch for bleeding outside of your period, which can also be a sign of vulvar cancer.

If you notice these symptoms and they persist, it is best to go to a gynecologist for a formal examination immediately.

2. Vulvar cancer examination items

1. General observation

1) Squamous cell carcinoma can present as simple ulcers, white lesions, subcutaneous masses, or polypoid lesions. In the early stage, the epithelial feet of the epidermis infiltrate into the interstitium and gradually form subcutaneous nodules. These nodules may also rupture and become smaller, and be misdiagnosed as inflammation. In the late stage, they develop into cauliflower-like growths or ulcers.

2) Bowen's disease manifests as dark red rough spots with clear but irregular borders and scabs on the surface. After removing the scabs, granulation tissue and exudate surface can be seen. The lesions of Paget's disease are eczematous, red, slightly raised, with white lesions or small particles, and sometimes shallow ulceration and crusting.

2. Microscopic examination

1) Squamous cell carcinoma: most are well differentiated, often with epithelial bead formation or keratinization; however, the clitoris or vestibule are poorly differentiated. In addition, nucleic acid synthesis disorders can be seen in adjacent normal tissues, indicating that it is necessary to remove the entire vulva when treating vulvar cancer;

2) Bowen's disease, with hyperkeratosis of the epidermis, parakeratosis, acanthosis, disordered cell arrangement, dark and atypical nuclear staining, and an intact basement membrane of the epidermis. Typical Paget cells may be found deep in the epidermis. These cells are large and round, oval or polygonal in shape, with empty and translucent cytoplasm and an intact epidermal basement membrane. However, the tumor cells often extend beyond the edge of the lesion visible to the naked eye. In diagnosing Paget's disease, attention should be paid to the presence of subepithelial sweat gland carcinoma;

3) Adenocarcinoma, with glandular hyperplasia, multi-layered epithelium, disordered arrangement, darkly stained nuclei and abnormal shapes.
