What is the reason for a hard lump in the breast after childbirth?

After giving birth, mothers have to face the issue of breastfeeding. However, some mothers, especially those who have plenty of milk but not much milk production, find that one or several hard lumps appear on their breasts, and the entire breast is swollen and swollen, and the pain is unbearable, which seriously affects breastfeeding. Many people do not understand why they did not have breast lumps before giving birth, but have lumps after giving birth. So, what does it mean when there are lumps in the breasts after giving birth?

1. Causes

1. Check whether it is lobular hyperplasia. It may be caused by the fluctuation of hormone levels in the body. Patients with breast hyperplasia should go to the hospital for a specialist examination every year and do color ultrasound, infrared breast radiography or molybdenum target photography if necessary.

2. In some cases, it is caused by milk stasis. If the stasis is more serious, infection will occur and cause mastitis. If milk stasis cannot be discharged in time, congestion and edema will occur, and bacterial invasion will cause inflammation.

2. Symptoms

There were no lumps before delivery. After one or two days of milk production, there were some lumps in the breasts, some of which were small bumps, and the breasts became severely swollen. And the milk doesn't come out, and I have to squeeze it hard with my hands to get out a little bit. Breast tenderness or tingling.

3. Hazards

The cause of milk blockage is that the mammary ducts are not smooth when milk is just produced. The milk accumulates inside, forming small lumps or lumps, which seriously affect milk secretion. Some mothers have milk backflow after one or two days of blockage because they don't clear the blockage in time, and their babies have to eat milk powder. Some develop mastitis and need to go to the hospital for injections and medication. What's worse, some people even have to undergo surgery due to suppurative infection caused by delayed treatment.

1. Treatment

1. Pick out the thorns from the cactus, grind it into a paste, and apply it to the affected area.

2. Traditional Chinese massage therapy to relieve breast edema, professional masseurs can handle it.

3. Antibiotic infusion treatment, this is the conventional method.

4. If the type is more serious, comprehensive treatment can be used with various methods together for better results.

5. You should wear a bra to improve blood circulation, and apply some cold compress for 3 to 5 minutes to reduce milk secretion. You can continue breastfeeding.

6. When there is a lot of milk, the entire breast skin is tight, and the baby has difficulty holding the nipple to suck, you can squeeze out the milk to soften the areola so that the baby can suck the areola accurately.

7. For those with ulcerated or cracked nipples, if the pain is severe, you can use a nipple shield to breastfeed, or you can use a breast pump to extract the milk or squeeze it out by hand and then feed it to the baby.

8. For those with milk stasis, apply a hot towel to the breasts, and then use massage to promote the dispersion of the nodules. At the same time, let the child suck one breast and then the other to ensure that the milk ducts are unobstructed.

5. Prevention

1. In the late pregnancy, you should pay attention to the cleanliness of the nipples and areola. You can scrub the breasts with warm water when taking a bath so that the nipples can tolerate the baby's sucking after delivery.

3. Use accurate breastfeeding posture to correct your baby’s sucking method. Let the baby open his mouth wide and suck the nipple and some areola in his mouth. Avoid letting the baby sleep with the nipple in his mouth.

4. Wash the nipples with warm water before breastfeeding. Do not use alcohol or other irritants to clean the nipples. After breastfeeding, leave a drop of milk on the nipples to help protect the nipple skin.

5. If the baby does not empty your breasts after each breastfeeding, you can use a breast pump or express milk by hand to empty your breasts. Let your baby finish one side each time before eating the other side.
