Every female friend wants to have a baby, but some friends just can’t get pregnant no matter what. At this time, this friend needs to go to the hospital for a thorough check-up. There are many reasons why conception cannot occur, and corpus luteum deficiency is one of them. The corpus luteum is a glandular structure that quickly turns into a blood vessel from a warm follicle after a woman ovulates. It is closely related to pregnancy. The corpus luteum can produce progesterone to support pregnancy. If the corpus luteum function is insufficient, it will lead to insufficient secretion of the endometrium, resulting in abnormal fertilization or early miscarriage after pregnancy. So what should we do if the corpus luteum is insufficient? 1. Causes of the disease The cause is currently unknown. The maintenance of normal corpus luteum function depends on the perfection of the function of the thalamus-pituitary-ovarian gonadal axis. Most scholars believe that the causes of corpus luteum insufficiency may be related to insufficient secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) by the pituitary gland; excessive or insufficient secretion of prolactin (PRL) by the pituitary gland; the immaturity of the follicles themselves and their insensitivity to gonadotropins; insufficient synthesis of progesterone by the corpus luteum itself or the uncoordinated ratio between progesterone and estrogen, etc. 2. Clinical manifestations 1. Infertility: Because the corpus luteum cannot shrink and degenerate as scheduled or degenerates incompletely and continues to secrete a small amount of progesterone, the endometrium cannot be shed at the normal time. The endometrium before menstruation still remains in the early secretory stage, and the secretory response is poor, which makes it difficult for women to become pregnant. 2. Miscarriage: Since luteal insufficiency cannot secrete enough progesterone, even if patients with luteal insufficiency conceive normally, it is difficult to maintain pregnancy, which leads to miscarriage and habitual miscarriage. 3. Menstrual disorders: Some patients with luteal insufficiency will experience symptoms of menstrual disorders, such as shortened menstrual cycle, menorrhagia, frequent menstruation, prolonged menstruation (up to 9-10 days or even longer), etc. 3. Disease Examination 1. Progesterone test Measure blood progesterone on the 18th to 28th day of menstruation. If its content is lower than normal, it indicates luteal insufficiency. 2. Ultrasound detection of ovulation The time from ovulation to menstruation should be about 14 days. If it is less than 12 days, it is luteal insufficiency. |
