What to do if losing weight causes amenorrhea? Do you know the dangers?

Every woman wants to have a perfect figure, so losing weight has become a common occurrence for everyone, and there are many ways to lose weight. In particular, many women ignore their physical health in order to lose weight and excessively harm their bodies. Many women even experience amenorrhea due to excessive weight loss. What should I do if my period doesn’t come while I’m losing weight?

In order to pursue a slim figure, women deliberately reduce their food intake, and even stop eating staple foods and meat, and only eat vegetables, fruits, etc. In recent years, many people who diet to lose weight have come to the gynecological clinic for treatment due to irregular menstruation or even amenorrhea. Some women whose weight is below the standard experience amenorrhea and infertility. After gaining weight, menstruation naturally resumed and fertility was restored. Menstrual disorders, amenorrhea, and uterine atrophy caused by weight loss are very common in clinical practice.

Scientific research has confirmed that a girl's first menstruation (called menarche) is related to her weight or body fat content. Menstruation occurs when the body's fat tissue reaches 17% of body weight; normal and regular menstruation can only be maintained when the fat tissue increases to 22% of body weight. When the body weight is 5%-10% lower than the standard body weight, the menstrual cycle may change and affect fertility; when it is 15% lower than the standard body weight, amenorrhea may occur due to the inability to release estrogen normally. If the body fat of a young girl is less than 17% of her body weight, it will affect the development of secondary sexual characteristics, resulting in irregular menstruation, amenorrhea and breast hypoplasia. Excessive weight loss in middle-aged women can also cause endocrine disorders, menstrual disorders or premature menopause, and even premature aging.

When women lose weight, they must pay attention to adopting relatively healthy methods. Don't sacrifice your health for weight loss, which is not worth it. A reasonable diet and reduced fat intake do not mean refusing fat intake. The key is to exercise, which is the best way to reduce fat.
