Can adenomyosis lead to fertility?

Adenomyosis is a common uterine disease. Patients usually experience symptoms of dysmenorrhea. The incidence rate is high in women after the age of 30, and menstruation is also irregular. Adenomyosis affects women's pregnancy, and untimely treatment will lead to infertility.

1. The causes of infertility caused by adenomyosis are:

1. Fibroids develop toward the surface of the uterus and protrude from the surface of the uterus. They are called subserosal uterine fibroids. They are often connected to the surface of the uterus by a pedicle. This type of fibroid has little effect on conception and is easy to remove surgically. However, when they grow to a certain size, compression symptoms will appear, which will affect the smooth progress of delivery.

2. This type of fibroid is called submucosal fibroid, which causes many symptoms, the most common of which are increased menstruation and vaginal discharge, which will have a foul odor after infection. When submucosal fibroids grow near the internal opening of the fallopian tube or in the upper half of the uterine cavity, they often affect the passage of sperm and prevent the fertilized egg from implanting and developing. This type of fibroid can be diagnosed through vaginal examination, diagnostic curettage, hysteroscopy, hysterography or B-ultrasound. All submucosal fibroids diagnosed should be surgically removed. Generally, no laparotomy is required and the tumor can be removed through hysteroscopy or vaginal removal.

3. Fibroids are confined to the uterine muscle wall, called intramural fibroids, accounting for 60% to 70% of fibroids. It not only affects conception but also often causes miscarriage or premature birth. Usually, these three types of fibroids grow together to form multiple fibroids or a combination of them, and are less likely to be single.

2. Diet and Health Care

1. Don’t be greedy for cold food: Women with poor gastrointestinal function should avoid eating raw, cold foods before and during menstruation, such as cold drinks, raw cold dishes, crabs, snails, clam meat, leeches, pears, persimmons, watermelons, bananas, bitter melon, mangosteen, mung beans, cucumbers, water chestnuts, grapefruits, oranges, etc., so as to avoid cold stagnation and blood stasis which may aggravate dysmenorrhea.

2. Don’t eat sour food: Acidic food has astringent effect, which makes the blood stagnant and is not conducive to the smooth flow and discharge of menstrual blood. Therefore, people with dysmenorrhea should try to avoid eating such food during menstruation. Acidic foods include rice vinegar, spicy and sour vegetables, pickles, pomegranates, green plums, bayberries, strawberries, star fruits, cherries, sour dates, mangoes, apricots, plums, lemons, etc.

3. Don’t eat spicy food: Some patients with dysmenorrhea already have heavy menstrual flow. Eating spicy, warm and irritating foods will aggravate pelvic congestion and inflammation, or cause excessive contraction of the uterine muscles, which will aggravate dysmenorrhea. Therefore, patients with dysmenorrhea should try to eat less or no foods such as chili pepper, pepper, garlic, onion, ginger, leek, chicken soup, durian and spicy condiments.

4. Do not eat foods that are hot, coagulant, or contain hormones, such as longan, red dates, donkey-hide gelatin, and royal jelly.

5. Do not eat mutton, shrimp, crab, eel, salted fish, black fish and other foods.

6. Eat more calcium-containing foods. You can also take active calcium citrate to supplement the lack of dietary calcium.
