Can a child still grow taller after menstruation?

In daily life, we often hear some female friends complain that their height is not ideal, and they say that they have not grown much after their menstruation. Therefore, they still feel quite regretful about this, and hope to find a way to grow taller after menstruation. So, can children grow taller after menstruation? In order to better help everyone, please join me in learning about it in the next period of time.

Along with the development of secondary sexual characteristics, accelerated height growth is an important feature of adolescent growth. The sudden growth in height usually occurs in girls half a year to a year after their breasts begin to develop, and in boys around the time of voice change. This process lasts about a year. The average growth spurt rate for girls is 8 to 9 cm per year, while that for boys is 1 to 2 cm more than that for girls. After this period, growth slows down and returns to the pre-pubertal speed of about 4 to 5 cm per year. After another year, it drops sharply to only 1 to 2 cm per year until the epiphysis completely closes and growth stops, reaching adult height. The deceleration time is around the time of menarche for girls and after voice change for boys.

Pubertal growth has an important impact on adult height. The main influencing factors are:

(1) Those who are short at the onset of puberty (when girls’ breasts begin to develop, boys’ scrotums become looser, and their testicles enlarge) will remain shorter regardless of whether they start puberty early or late.

(2) The speed of sudden height increase varies from person to person, ranging from 6.4 to 11 cm. Some children have almost no accelerated growth. This situation usually has a pathological basis, such as underlying chronic wasting disease, malnutrition or even endocrine abnormalities. The cause should be checked in time to avoid losing the height that should be increased.

(3) The duration of growth spurt: Some children slow down after only six months, while others can last up to 2 years.

(4) Bone growth from the beginning of development to the complete fusion of the epiphysis is the basis for body height growth. Bones have a growth zone called the epiphysis. During childhood, the bone cells in this area actively proliferate to make the bones grow longer.

The balance between growth and maturation during adolescence

Adolescence is a period of balanced growth and maturation that enables children to eventually develop into adults with adult physiques and reproductive abilities. For the sake of height, we hope that the balance between the two will tilt towards growth, that is, growth faster than maturity. It is not difficult to understand that this will increase adult height. The speed of maturity is related to the number of years of sustainable growth. Those who progress slowly will have their epiphyseal closure late, and their adult height will be taller than those who progress quickly. This is natural considering the above-mentioned growth rules.

Through our understanding of the above, most of our friends have already formed their own unique insights and more accurate conclusions on the question of whether children can still grow taller after menstruation. Of course, I would also like to remind everyone again that if girls want to grow taller, they should seize the years before menstruation. During this period, you must eat more foods that promote height growth and participate in more outdoor sports.
