What should I check when preparing for pregnancy?

In the past, people usually just got pregnant and didn’t think too much about it. But now, with the development of science and technology and medicine, people are paying more and more attention to the next generation. Therefore, when preparing to become pregnant and have a baby, more and more people will choose to go to the hospital for a prenatal check-up, and then confirm that they and their loved ones have the most suitable bodies for pregnancy before they start preparing for pregnancy. So, what should you check when preparing for pregnancy?

1. Gynecological examination

It is best to have a gynecological examination before pregnancy. Because some reproductive tract pathogenic microorganisms such as gonococci, Treponema pallidum, Chlamydia trachomatis, etc. can also cause intrauterine infection of the fetus and affect the normal development of the fetus. If infection with the above pathogenic microorganisms is found, conception should be postponed and active treatment should be carried out. If you have fungal or Trichomonas vaginitis before pregnancy, it is best to get treatment before getting pregnant.

Couples who have had a history of abnormal pregnancy and childbirth, such as spontaneous abortion, stillbirth, fetal malformation or unexplained neonatal death, should go to the hospital's genetic eugenics consultation clinic for consultation before the next pregnancy. The doctor will recommend further examinations based on the patient's condition to determine whether miscarriage or stillbirth is caused by genetic factors; check the ABO blood type system and RH blood type system of both parties to rule out maternal blood type incompatibility; the man can have a routine semen test to understand the quantity and quality of sperm, and through the above examinations find out the cause of the disease, so as to provide guidance for future pregnancies and avoid similar situations from happening again.

2. “TORCH” inspection

According to a gynecologist at Nanjing 414 Hospital, intrauterine infection is an important factor affecting fetal growth and development. The main known pathogens are: Toxoplasma gondii (T), rubella virus (R), cytomegalovirus (C), herpes simplex virus (H) and other viruses (O), such as human papillomavirus. This group of pathogen infections is called the TORCH disease group. Medical research has confirmed that if a pregnant woman is infected with any of the above pathogens, she may infect the fetus during pregnancy and delivery, leading to symptoms such as miscarriage, stillbirth, deformity, congenital mental retardation, and sensorineural deafness.

??Some people think that they have always been in good health and have never had a cold or fever before pregnancy, so there is no need to do this test. In fact, this is not the case, because most adults infected with "TORCH" have few obvious symptoms and are not easy to detect, and can only be discovered through testing. For those who are found to be TORCH antibody positive before pregnancy, treatment and regular monitoring should be carried out under the guidance of a professional doctor, and pregnancy can only be considered after the antibodies turn negative.

3. Hepatitis B virus test

Both husband and wife should be checked for hepatitis B virus before pregnancy. Because the hepatitis B virus can be transmitted through the placenta, the fetus becomes a carrier of the hepatitis B virus after birth. If pre-pregnancy check-up shows positive triple positive and abnormal liver function, pregnancy should be temporarily avoided and treatment should be sought. If the test result is positive for hepatitis B virus, further quantitative testing for hepatitis B virus DNA should be conducted to determine its infectiousness. Those with negative hepatitis B DNA test can become pregnant, and intramuscular injection of high-efficiency hepatitis B immunoglobulin should be given during pregnancy and within 24 hours after the newborn is delivered to prevent the newborn from being infected with the hepatitis B virus.

What should I check when preparing for pregnancy? The above listed are all essential inspections. Children are our most precious treasures, and of course we all hope that they are healthy and intact, so as parents we must first be in good health. Therefore, in order to get pregnant and for the sake of the child, we must pay attention to our physical health.
