Endometrial polyps are another type of chronic endometritis, in which local blood vessels and connective tissue in the inflammatory endometrium proliferate, forming pedicled polyp-like growths that protrude into the uterine cavity. The polyps vary in size and number and are mostly located in the uterine body. Intracervical polyps can cause cervical dilation and prolapse of the external opening.

The main causes of endometrial polyps are as follows:

1) Chronic endometritis or myometritis.

2) Foreign bodies in the uterine cavity, such as IUD, are retained.

3) Specific infections such as tuberculosis, amoebiasis and schistosomiasis.

4) Placental retention and infection.

The mechanism by which endometrial polyps cause infertility is as follows:

1) Endometrial polyps fill the uterine cavity, hindering the retention and implantation of sperm and fertilized eggs.

2) Endometrial polyps combined with infection change the intrauterine environment, which is not conducive to the survival of sperm and fertilized eggs.

3) Endometrial polyps hinder placental implantation and embryo development.

4) Combined with fallopian tube or oophoritis, which may cause obstructive or anovulatory infertility

Clinical manifestations of endometrial polyps:

1) Have a history of acute or chronic endometritis.

2) Menstrual disorders such as menorrhagia, prolonged menstruation, intermenstrual bleeding, dysmenorrhea, etc.

3) Primary or secondary infertility.

4) There is a history of pathological pregnancy such as miscarriage and stillbirth.

5) The uterus is normal or slightly enlarged, accompanied by symptoms such as lower abdominal pain, increased leucorrhea, and bleeding after sexual intercourse.
