About atypical ectopic pregnancy

Medically speaking, ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy that develops abnormally in the uterine cavity. We often see heroines surviving ectopic pregnancies in TV dramas, but in fact, ectopic pregnancy is a very dangerous emergency, which can be life-threatening in severe cases. In addition to the symptoms of amenorrhea, abdominal pain, and irregular vaginal bleeding, ectopic pregnancy may also cause shock symptoms such as dizziness, cold limbs, nausea, and syncope depending on the increase in intra-abdominal bleeding. There are other atypical clinical manifestations:

1. There are no subjective symptoms, but the pregnancy test is positive and ultrasound shows no gestational sac in the uterine cavity.

Generally speaking, two weeks after conception, which is equivalent to when the next menstruation is due, a urine test strip may show a positive result, and an abdominal ultrasound examination can usually detect a gestational sac in the uterine cavity about 40 days after the menstruation stops (depending on the physician's recognition ability and the resolution of the ultrasound). At this time, the hCG level in the serum must be at least 2500IU. A transvaginal ultrasound examination can usually detect a gestational sac in the uterine cavity as early as 35 days (5 weeks) to confirm an early intrauterine pregnancy (hCG>1500IU).

Second, irregular vaginal bleeding

This type of patients often seek medical treatment for irregular menstruation. A careful inquiry into the medical history reveals that they have never had prolonged menstruation in the past. The current menstrual volume is slightly less but lasts longer, and may be dark or black in color, with or without abdominal pain. This can easily be misdiagnosed as abnormal menstruation. Therefore, for abnormal "menstruation", blood hCG testing must be performed to rule out ectopic pregnancy.

3. Pelvic mass

Such patients often have had mild abdominal pain and varying degrees of internal bleeding, which gradually stopped on their own and the abdominal pain was relieved, but there is still dull pain from time to time. Ultrasound can reveal a mass with complex echoes, which may be absorbed and ossified over time, and even have ultrasound changes similar to a malignant tumor. Such patients often have lower hCG levels, but blood tests can still provide strong evidence.

When it comes to the risk factor of ectopic pregnancy, it should be obvious to all. But generally speaking, the probability of ectopic pregnancy should not be very high. I have not come into contact with the relevant knowledge about ectopic pregnancy, and I only know a little about this situation. Therefore, it is recommended that women go to the hospital for more frequent checkups during pregnancy to 100% ensure the health and safety of the baby in their belly.
