How to isolate at home during the novel coronavirus outbreak? Things to note when isolating at home during the outbreak

We all know that home quarantine is an important step in preventing the new coronavirus. All people returning to work need to self-isolate at home and can only go to work normally after ensuring that they are asymptomatic and disease-free. So how should home quarantine be carried out? Let's take a closer look!

How to quarantine at home

1. It is best to live alone. The environment requirements are as follows:

Good ventilation: at least one window, preferably one that allows air to circulate throughout the house (downwind), to prevent polluted air from flowing into common areas;

There is a separate toilet and bathroom;

It is best to use wooden or metal furniture to facilitate disinfection (if there are only fabric or leather furniture, you can cover it with disposable plastic sheets);

Keeping the number of items in the house as few as possible can reduce the chance of infection and save you the trouble of subsequent disinfection and cleaning.

2. Necessary supplies for home isolation mainly include: disinfection and care products, daily necessities, etc.

Thermometer: measure body temperature in the morning and evening to monitor physical condition;

Mask: N95 mask or disposable surgical mask;

Disinfectant: Chlorine-containing disinfectant is fine, such as 84 disinfectant;

Alcohol: 75% alcohol, alcohol spray bottle, alcohol cotton pads, etc.;

Soap/hand sanitizer: Ordinary soap or hand sanitizer will do. Choose hand sanitizer with a higher alcohol concentration;

Paper towels: give priority to multi-layered paper towels that are not easily permeable;

Special garbage bags and garbage bins with lids: used to dispose of discarded masks and other secretions;

Disposable towels, or personal towels.

3. How to judge the changes of the disease during home isolation

It is recommended that people under home quarantine measure their body temperature at least twice a day, observe changes in their condition, and record them until their symptoms gradually improve without worsening.

Symptoms that need attention include: cough, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, chest tightness, body aches, diarrhea, etc.

If the body temperature gradually drops and the various symptoms gradually become lighter, it means the situation is improving and you just need to keep observing.

If you continue to have one or more of these symptoms and there is no sign of improvement, you should contact your community or home quarantine management agency and seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Specific measures for home isolation

1. Infection prevention and control for people under home quarantine and medical observation

(1) People under home quarantine for medical observation can choose a room with good ventilation in the home and open windows for ventilation more often; keep the door closed at all times, and open the window for ventilation before opening the door to other family members or roommates.

(II) You do not need to wear a mask when you are in the isolation room. You should wear a surgical mask when you leave the isolation room. Wash your hands in time before and after wearing a new surgical mask and after handling a used mask.

(III) When you must leave the isolation room, wear a surgical mask and wash or disinfect your hands before going out. Do not leave the isolation room at will.

4. Minimize contact with other family members as much as possible. If contact is necessary, keep a distance of more than 1 meter and stay downwind as much as possible.

5. Keep daily necessities separate from those of other family members or roommates to avoid cross contamination.

(6) Avoid using central air conditioning.

(VII) Maintain adequate rest time and nutrition. It is best to limit eating and drinking to the isolation room. Try not to share the bathroom. If you must share, divide the time, ventilate after use, and disinfect the surface of objects that the body touches with disinfectants such as alcohol.

(8) Pay attention to coughing etiquette, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing, do not spit anywhere, and throw used tissues and masks into a special covered trash can.

9. Clean and disinfect used items promptly.

(10) According to the home quarantine medical observation notice, measure body temperature every morning and afternoon, and measure and record it at any time when you feel feverish. If you have acute respiratory symptoms such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, etc., contact the observation personnel at the quarantine point in time.

II. Infection prevention and control for family members of people under home quarantine and medical observation

1. Wear a surgical mask.

(2) Keep the room well ventilated.

3. Try not to enter the isolation observation room.

(IV) When communicating or providing items to people under home quarantine for medical observation, the distance should be at least 1 meter.

(V) Pay attention to hand hygiene. In principle, disinfect your hands before washing them when touching items from the isolation room. Do not share dining utensils and other items with the person under observation.

Tips for eating during self-isolation at home

People in self-isolation at home have limited range of activities, reduced activity, and greater psychological pressure. They are prone to irregular eating habits such as single food, eating too little or too much. Community workers are the main managers and should consider the dietary nutrition issues of people in self-isolation at home:

1. Community workers should include dietary nutrition content in prevention and control publicity, and refer to the "Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents" to guide people under home quarantine to prepare daily meals, and strive to achieve food diversity, regular and quantitative meals, reasonable distribution of energy and nutrients, and balanced nutrition. Strive to consume high-quality protein-rich foods every day, including fish, poultry, meat, eggs, milk, beans and nuts; eat more fresh vegetables and fruits every day. Actively drink water, no less than 1500ml per day.

2. People under home quarantine should actively engage in indoor physical activities to maintain their body functions.

3. Nutrient supplements may be taken under the guidance of a registered dietitian.

Specific recommendations for home quarantine

1. Live and eat alone. Monitor body temperature and symptoms every morning and evening, keep the door closed at all times, do not wear a mask in the room, and must wear a disposable surgical mask after leaving the room. Wash hands in time before and after wearing a mask.

2. Second, ventilation and disinfection should be done well. Ventilate at least 3 times a day, each time for at least 30 minutes. If there is no condition for air disinfection, chlorine-containing preparations or 75% alcohol can be used to wipe and disinfect daily necessities. Public places such as toilets should also be disinfected and ventilated, and personal items should be disinfected in a timely manner.

3. The third is to adjust your mentality. Ensure adequate rest and balanced nutrition. If any abnormality occurs, contact the observation personnel at the isolation point in time.
