How to relieve breast engorgement pain

How to relieve breast engorgement pain

The most common symptom for breastfeeding mothers is breast engorgement. Regardless of whether they are still breastfeeding or have to stop breastfeeding, breast engorgement is an inevitable pain for women with a lot of breast milk. At this time, measures need to be taken to alleviate the pain, such as using a breast pump to extract some milk to reduce the amount of milk, or taking oral Chinese herbal medicine to make the milk flow back, or choosing the right time to breastfeed.

1. You can gradually and slowly pump out small amounts of milk. On the one hand, it can relieve the pain of breast engorgement. On the other hand, it can also alleviate the serious damage to the mammary gland caused by a one-time breast engorgement. It usually takes about a week to resolve. Try to drink less soup during this period. You can drink roasted malt water, which contains vitamin B6 to help with milk production. If the milk is severely swollen, you need to use a breast pump to express it. Avoid squeezing to prevent mastitis. The symptoms will gradually ease after 3 days.

2. The current situation is that you need to stop breastfeeding. You are experiencing severe swelling and pain, so you can consider using a breast pump to suck out some of the milk. You can boil malt water and drink it to help weaning. If there is obvious bloating and pain during the weaning period, you can use a breast pump to suck out some milk. Be careful not to suck out too much. This can relieve bloating and pain without affecting weaning.

3. Oral or external use of Chinese herbal medicines to stop milk secretion may also have good effects, such as 120g of roasted malt, boiled in water, and taken warm in 3 doses; or 1 bowl of soy milk, add a little white sugar; or first suck out the milk, use 50-60g of saltpeter, put it in a gauze bag, apply it to the breasts, and replace it in time after deliquescing, 3-4 times a day. If the pain is severe and difficult to relieve, go to the hospital for appropriate examination immediately.

4. The breast pain will disappear naturally after 3 to 4 days of weaning. The time and method of weaning depend on many factors. Every mother and baby has different feelings about weaning, and the method chosen varies from person to person. Quick weaning: If you have made sufficient preparations, started to add more complementary foods and reduce the number of feedings, and slowly let the baby get used to other foods, such as rice porridge, egg custard, small buns, etc., the baby can also adapt, and the time for weaning is ripe, and the baby can be weaned quickly.

5. A relatively simple preventive measure is for mothers to breastfeed their babies early. The best time to breastfeed is within 30 minutes after giving birth. At this time, the mother's body has more milk, and it can effectively prevent milk engorgement. At the same time, you should pay attention to the number and order of feedings. It is generally recommended to feed every two to three hours. If you have too much milk, you can use a breast pump to express it. This will relieve the milk engorgement after a day or two.
