What are the characteristics of perimenopausal menstruation?

What are the characteristics of perimenopausal menstruation?

Under normal circumstances, women are likely to enter perimenopause after the age of 45. This is actually a period of menopause for women. At this age, women's ovarian function will decline, so many uncomfortable symptoms will appear during the perimenopause period. Due to changes in hormones in the body, these symptoms will involve the urinary system, cardiovascular system, digestive system, etc.

1. Disruption of the physiological cycle is the norm.

After the onset of menopause, women's physiological cycles undergo tremendous changes, from normal monthly menstruation to irregular vaginal bleeding. Sometimes the menstrual period is prolonged and even becomes continuous vaginal bleeding, which may last for 1 to 2 months in severe cases. Heavy menstruation may also occur, and the patient may develop anemia, dark complexion, general weakness, rapid heartbeat, and shortness of breath. In severe cases, the hemoglobin level in women may be significantly lowered. Some women have repeated bleeding, and generally after 1 to 2 years, the menstruation will disappear completely, and menopausal women will enter menopause.

2. Don’t forget about infrequent menstruation.

As the name suggests, oligomenorrhea means that the menstrual cycle is prolonged and the menstrual volume is reduced. The main manifestation is that the interval between menstrual cycles of menopausal women will become longer, from the original 20-30 days per cycle to 2-3 months, or even longer. The amount of menstruation tends to decrease significantly compared with before, and the interval between periods also keeps getting longer. In severe cases, menstruation may only occur once every six months. In the end, menstruation will disappear completely, which is what we call menopause.

3. Don’t panic if you suddenly go into menopause.

Sudden menopause is very common during menopause. The main manifestation is that a few women have had normal menstrual cycles and periods in the past, but now suddenly go through menopause; some have normal cycles, but only have a few periods with a gradual decrease in menstrual volume, and then suddenly stop menstruating. Sudden menopause is very rare in daily life, but it must be paid attention to. If symptoms occur, you must seek medical attention in time to avoid worse consequences.

4. Age and symptoms of menopause

1. Age

According to statistics, most women in my country experience menopause between the ages of 45 and 55. Among them, about 15% of women will suddenly experience amenorrhea after the age of 40, and will never have menstruation again, directly entering the late stage of menopause. Another 65% of women will have longer and longer menstrual cycles, less menstrual flow, or even have periods every other month. Another 20% of women will experience a sudden shortening of their menstrual cycle, or even irregular bleeding.

2. Symptoms

When women are about to enter menopause, they often experience some obvious symptoms. Generally, women will show changes in their emotions and moods. They will be very easily excited, often suffer from insomnia and anxiety, are always uneasy inside, and can easily fall into a state of depression. At the same time, women's skin will gradually lose elasticity, wrinkles will increase, muscles will gradually become loose, they will often feel fatigue and weakness, and their blood pressure will become unstable.
