Is it normal to have heavy menstrual flow after having an IUD inserted?

Due to the fast pace of life and tremendous life pressure, more and more people do not have any more children after their first child. IUD contraception is safe and effective, so many women go to the hospital to have it inserted after giving birth. However, new problems arise with this. Some women experience heavy menstrual flow after having an IUD inserted. So is it normal to have heavy menstrual flow after having an IUD inserted? We need to analyze this issue in detail. Let us learn about it together.

Under normal circumstances, there will be a small amount of bleeding after the IUD is inserted, and the amount of bleeding will not exceed the menstrual volume. It is normal to have an IUD inserted in the second half of the menstrual cycle to increase menstrual flow and prolong the menstrual period. If the menstrual flow is still heavy more than half a year after the IUD was inserted, it is considered abnormal.

If bacteria or viruses are brought into the uterine cavity during IUD insertion or if personal hygiene is not taken seriously after IUD insertion, it can easily cause uterine cavity infection, resulting in excessive bleeding, prolonged menstruation, dysmenorrhea, etc., which rarely happen in regular hospitals. Infection may occur for those who have a history of genital tract inflammation, or have sex too early or frequently after the IUD is inserted (how long after the IUD is inserted can you have sex). The ring itself may be deformed, twisted, or positioned abnormally, which may also cause increased bleeding or dysmenorrhea. If this happens, you should consider changing the ring to reduce the needle shape.

In addition, if you already have coagulation disorders, chronic endometritis or other diseases, or if you have heavy menstruation, forcing an IUD into the vagina will also cause heavy menstrual flow. After 3 to 6 months, as the uterus adapts to the ring and coexists peacefully with it, the symptoms of heavy menstrual flow and prolonged menstrual duration after the insertion of the ring will gradually ease or disappear. If the bleeding is heavy and lasts for a long time, hemostatic drugs and appropriate antibacterial drugs can be used to prevent infection.

If there is an abnormal increase in menstrual flow after the IUD is inserted and treatment is ineffective, you should go to the hospital and have the doctor remove the IUD, or replace it with another one. Removing and replacing an IUD is a very painful process, but you have to endure it for your health. Therefore, it is recommended that you find a regular hospital and a professional doctor when doing an IUD insertion operation for the first time to improve the effect of the operation.
