I got pregnant in the second month after the angiography.

Fallopian tube blockage is a key factor leading to female infertility. When the fallopian tubes are blocked, the eggs discharged from the ovaries cannot fuse normally with the sperm entering the uterine cavity, so artificial insemination is impossible. Generally, the detailed situation inside the bilateral fallopian tubes can be understood through angiography examination. What should I do if I get pregnant in the second month after the angiography examination?

How long after angiography can I get pregnant? Experts suggest that it is best to take contraceptive measures for three months before getting pregnant.

Angiography is a test method used to check whether the fallopian tubes on both sides of a woman are unobstructed. When a woman goes to the hospital for an infertility test, she will undergo angiography. The commonly used methods and contrast agents for angiography are different, and the time limits for pregnancy will also be different. Some contrast agents allow pregnancy the following month, while others may require waiting until three months before pregnancy.

Although clinical observations have shown that women who become pregnant this month after angiography do not have an increased risk of fetal abnormalities. However, from the perspective of eugenics and safety, the medical community currently believes that it is best for women to wait until the third month after undergoing angiography before becoming pregnant to reduce the possible impact of intrauterine operations during X-ray and angiography examinations, and it is recommended to do a pre-pregnancy physical examination and pregnancy check-up during pregnancy.

Let’s learn about the common methods and contrast agents of hysterosalpingography.

1. Hysterography by X-ray

It is a very accurate method for diagnosing fallopian tube diseases at this stage. Iodine-containing contrast agent is introduced into the uterine cavity and bilateral fallopian tubes through a flexible tube. The developing liquid of the contrast agent in the bilateral fallopian tubes and pelvis is observed under X-rays. At the same time, radiographs are taken to understand whether the bilateral fallopian tubes are unobstructed, the location of blockage, the shape of the uterine cavity, and the condition of pelvic adhesions.

There are 2 types of contrast agents:

(1) Traditional iodized oil: Its advantages are high viscosity, high density, clear image, slow flow, and sufficient film time. The second film should be taken 24 hours after the first film. It can not only observe the shape and general condition of the bilateral fallopian tubes, but also observe whether there is adhesion in the pelvis based on the diffusion of the contrast agent within 24 hours. The disadvantage is that the inspection time is long, the digestion and absorption are slow, and it is easy to cause foreign body reaction and granuloma. Contraceptive measures are required for 3 months after surgery.

(2) Digestible and absorbable iodine water: such as diatrizoate, iohexol, etc. The advantages are low viscosity and fast fluidity. Two tablets can be taken continuously with an interval of 10 to 15 minutes. The inspection time is short and it can be quickly excreted through the kidney without causing foreign body reaction. The disadvantages are: fast flow and fast disappearance, if the cooperation is not good, the photo developer is not clear, and it is not accurate for the observation of pelvic conditions. But it generally does not affect pregnancy next month.

2. Ultrasound angiography of both uterine and fallopian tubes

It uses ultrasonic contrast agents (such as hydrogen peroxide) to observe the fluidity of contrast agent microbubbles in the uterine body and bilateral fallopian tubes under B-ultrasound to distinguish the patency of bilateral fallopian tubes, and also has the effect of perfusion treatment. The test is accurate and convenient, but this method sometimes cannot determine the location of fallopian tube obstruction. Because ultrasound contrast agents have no toxic side effects and can avoid direct X-ray exposure, they will not affect pregnancy next month.
