Left or right? Which way to sleep is healthier?

Left or right? Which way to sleep is healthier?

As night falls, we all drift off to sleep, but did you know that your choice of sleeping position can have a profound impact on your health?

First, let's talk about the "royal position" - lying on your back. This sleeping position allows your organs to enjoy freedom, your face to breathe, and your spine to relax. But for those who are heavier, lying on your back can cause snoring and even sleep apnea, especially when the tongue blocks the airway under the action of gravity. According to statistics, the probability of sleep apnea when lying on your back is about twice that of lying on your side. But don't worry, it's usually not fatal. Most people (60%) prefer this sleeping position.

Next is the "favorite of pregnant women" - lying on the left side. This position is particularly beneficial for pregnant women because it can reduce the pressure of the uterus on the abdominal aorta and improve blood circulation. But it also has disadvantages, such as pressure on the heart and stomach, and potential effects on male reproductive health. About 15% of people sleep on their left side.

Now, let's look at the "digestion-friendly" right side sleeping position. This position is conducive to stomach emptying and reduces the chance of esophageal reflux (commonly known as acid reflux). But like left side sleeping, it may also put pressure on the testicles, which is not conducive to sperm development and is prone to testicular torsion. About 20% of people prefer right side sleeping.

Finally, there is the "non-mainstream option" - prone sleeping. This position is good for the spine and waist, and can also reduce snoring. But it may cause all internal organs to be compressed and it is easy to drool during sleep. Only 5% of people sleep on their stomachs.

Each posture has its own unique benefits and potential drawbacks. Good night, choose the posture that suits you best and let your body get the best rest! Have a good sleep and welcome a better tomorrow!
